ISLAMABAD: Four soldiers were martyred and 12 terrorists tied to Indian proxy groups were eliminated in a series of operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the military said on Thursday.
The clashes spanned multiple districts and involved intense firefights, the military’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The deadliest of the encounters unfolded overnight on May 28-29 in the Shawal area of North Waziristan District, where security forces repelled an assault on a military check post. “On night 28-29 May, Indian sponsored khwarij attempted to attack a Security Forces Check Post,” the ISPR said. “The attempt was effectively thwarted by own troops and in ensuing fire exchange, six Indian sponsored Khwarij were sent to hell.”
Lieutenant Daniyal Ismail, a 24-year-old officer from Mardan, led his troops from the front and was killed in the battle, alongside three of his men: Naib Subedar Kashif Raza, 42, from Chakwal; Lance Naik Fiaqat Ali, 35, from Haripur; and Sepoy Muhammad Hameed, 26, from Abbottabad.
“… during intense fire exchange, Lieutenant Daniyal Ismail, a brave young officer who was leading his troops from front, fought gallantly and embraced Shahadat along with his three men,” the ISPR said. “The three soldiers who paid ultimate sacrifice include Naib Subedar Kashif Raza, Lance Naik Fiaqat Ali and Sepoy Muhammad Hameed.”
In a separate operation in Chitral District, security forces killed one additional an Indian-sponsored kharji. The military said it was conducting “sanitization operations” to ensure no other threats remained in the area, underscoring its determination “to wipe out the menace of Indian sponsored terrorism from the country.”
Earlier in Balochistan, two operations claimed the lives of five more terrorists linked Indian proxy Fitnah-al-Hindustan. In Loralai District, an intelligence-driven raid saw troops engage a terrorist hideout.
“During the … operation, [our] own troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and after an intense fire exchange, four Indian-sponsored terrorists were successfully neutralised,” the ISPR said. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered at the scene.
The military identified the slain terrorists as key figures wanted for attacks on the N-70 highway near Rarasham, including strikes on August 26, 2024, and February 18, 2025, that left 30 people dead.
“The killed Indian-sponsored terrorists were highly wanted by law enforcement agencies, and were relentlessly pursued by the security forces,” the ISPR added. In a second engagement in Kech District, another terrorist was “sent to hell,” according to the military.
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace [of] Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country and reaffirm the nation’s unwavering resolve to bring the perpetrators of terrorism and their facilitators to justice,” the ISPR added.
President Asif Ali Zardari, in a statement from his office, hailed the security forces’ efforts. “Security forces are taking action to eradicate the menace of terrorism and the nation stands united,” he said. “Operations against Fitnah-ul-Hindustan will continue until terrorism is completely eradicated.”
Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorist violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire with the government in November 2022. The country ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with terror-related deaths climbing 45 percent over the past year to 1,081.
Last month, ISPR Director General Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry accused India of orchestrating the uptick in attacks, claiming to have “irrefutable evidence” of state-sponsored terrorism. “Post-Pahalgam, because of the designs of terrorism that they have, they tasked all their assets, the terrorists operating in Balochistan, and we have credible intelligence for that,” Chaudhry then said.
