ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Air Force captured top honors at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025, one of the world’s premier military airshows, showcasing its advanced aircraft and reinforcing its rising prominence in military aviation just months after clashing with India.
The awards were revealed at RIAT 2025, held at Royal Air Force Base Fairford in the United Kingdom, an event that has been a fixture in the aerospace community for over 50 years. Running from July 18 to 20, RIAT is one of the largest military airshows globally, showcasing cutting-edge aviation technology while supporting the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.
A Pakistan Air Force contingent arrived at RAF Fairford on Thursday, bringing with it the state-of-the-art JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter aircraft and the stalwart C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. The JF-17 Block-III was awarded the “Spirit of the Meet Trophy” for its “striking livery and the incredible journey from Pakistan with non-stop air-to-air refuelling,” state-run PTV reported.
The C-130H Hercules clinched the “Concours d’Elegance Trophy.” “These awards were given in recognition of the aircrafts’ excellent flying and technical skills,” PTV said. The technical achievements of the JF-17 stood out as a testament to Pakistan’s advancing capabilities.
PTV noted that the JF-17C Block III represents Pakistan’s “advanced defence technology,” a point echoed by the international attention it has garnered at RIAT. The recognition comes amid heightened global interest in the PAF, following its role in the Pakistan-India conflict earlier this year.
In May, Pakistan downed Indian jets in retaliation for late-night strikes, an operation the PAF formally acknowledged a month later was led by its Kamra-based 15 Squadron. The event, now considered one of the largest air-to-air engagements in South Asia in more than half a century, thrust the JF-17’s combat-proven capabilities into the spotlight.
“There is a palpable sense of enthusiasm across the United Kingdom following the recent Pakistan-India conflict, as aviation enthusiasts and defence observers were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the Pakistan Air Force’s JF-17 Thunder Block-III,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a earlier statement. “The aircraft’s combat-proven capabilities and operational excellence have garnered significant global attention, making its appearance at RIAT a highly anticipated highlight in the aerospace and defence community.”
The success at RIAT is more than a fleeting victory for Pakistan. “This success has honoured Pakistan’s aviation sector on an international level,” PTV reported, calling it a “testament to the recognition of the capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force.”
