ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is leaving for Tehran today (Tuesday), a statement said on Monday, to scout for potential energy deals, especially Iranian crude oil at rates lower than skyrocketing world markets.
This is his first visit to Iran after assuming the office of the country’s foreign minister. Bilawal will be in Iran for two days.
“Both the countries are tied in strong cultural and spiritual relations, the economic ties also have huge potential which both the countries can take advantage of,” Bilawal said talking to journalists.
Answering a question regarding Iran Gas Pipeline, Bilawal said that this project was initiated by President Asif Ali Zardari, and “we want to progress on it according to international obligations”.
Meanwhile, the foreign minister called on Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zabi, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Earlier in the day, Bilawal met with Tarek Dahroug, Egypt’s ambassador to Pakistan.
