ISLAMABAD: The authorities Tuesday arrested former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s chief of staff Shehbaz Gill from the former’s Gala residence.

The development comes in the wake of the shutdown last evening of satellite broadcaster ARY News after it aired remarks by Gill seen by the authorities as inciting mutiny in the armed forces.

Fawad Chaudhry, a former cabinet minister of Khan, took to Twitter in the afternoon announcing Gill had been “abducted by people who arrived in cars without license plates”.

Islamabad police have confirmed Gill was arrested in connection with his offending remarks, made in a primetime ARY news show, and for “speaking against institutions”. They also insist he was detained by a uniformed police party.
