ISLAMABAD: A suspected suicide bomber struck near a security forces vehicle in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area on Tuesday, injuring at least six people, police and local media said.
The blast occurred on a busy road in the city, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan.
Television footage showed a crowd of people and a charred vehicle at the site.
“It seems to be a suicide blast. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital,” a police official told reporters.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which came amid a surge in violence across Pakistan in recent months.
Last week, nine soldiers were killed when militants attacked an army garrison in Balochistan province. Earlier, two security personnel were martyred and another wounded in a gunfight with terrorists in the same province.
In March, a suicide bomber killed 56 people and wounded 200 others, including children, in a crowded market in Peshawar.
