PM Sharif cuts electricity tariffs by 12pc for industries to boost exports

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced a subsidy package to improve the country’s industry and exports, aimed at reducing the burden on industries and increasing competitiveness in the global market.

The package includes a reduction in electricity prices for industries by Rs10.69 per unit, effective immediately. Consequently, the electricity rate for industries and exports is now fixed at Rs34.99 per unit.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the move is expected to reduce the burden on industries by over Rs200 billion and make them more competitive in the global market.

The package is also expected to increase industrial production, boost exports, and create employment opportunities in the country.

“The special package announced by the Prime Minister will accelerate industrial development, increase employment opportunities, and benefit the national economy,” the statement said.
