ISLAMABAD: Skeptical of the security protocols for Chinese working in Pakistan, Beijing has mounted pressure on Islamabad to ‘do more’ especially after the deadly Karachi terror attack, demanding justice without delay, a statement said on Tuesday.
“China wants Pakistan to fully investigate the terrorist incident in Karachi University and book the real culprits as soon as possible,” said Pang Chunxue, Acting Ambassador of China in Islamabad.
Chunxue was talking to Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.
The talks were held on Pakistan-China relations and other issues of mutual interest.
The two sides discussed steps taken to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan and to improve relations.
The Ministry of Interior reached agreement with the Chinese Embassy to enhance the security of Chinese citizens, according to the minutes of the meeting.
Pakistan condemns the terror attack in Karachi University that killed three Chinese teachers and injured others and the whole nation was standing by the bereaved in this hour of grief, Sanaullah said.
Both the countries also vowed to put such tragedies behind to move ahead together.
“We will not allow any internal or external conspiracy to weaken Pak-China friendship to succeed,” Sanaullah added.
He said Pakistan would leave no stone unturned to bring the masterminds of the bombing to justice and make them an example with the befitting punishment.
Rana Sanaullah said the state is using all its resources to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, adding that foreign national security desk has been set up in the interior ministry.
The purpose of setting up the desk is to ensure effective coordination to ensure the safety of foreigners in Pakistan, especially Chinese nationals, said Sanaullah.
The minister said strong security arrangements had been put in place for the Chinese working on CPEC projects.
The Minister of Interior said the incidents like terrorism should not happen, adding that for them, coordination between the federal and the states is being made effective.
The Chinese government is grateful for the extraordinary care taken by the Chinese nationals, said Ambassador Chunxue.
Pang Chunxue said the friendship between Pakistan and China was everlasting, adding the process of China’s assistance in Pakistan’s development would continue.
“The CPEC project is a symbol of friendship and good relations between the two friends,” Chunxue said.
Earlier, the interior minister assured the Chinese envoy to provide visa facilitation for Chinese nationals.
“Pakistan and China have enjoyed very close relationships,” Sanaullah said adding, “Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif considers China to be Pakistan’s best and most trusted friend”.
He said the new coalition government would take Pakistan-China relations to new heights.
