ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday disposed of a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretariat employees against notices issued to them by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the prohibited funding case.
In their petition, PTI Secretariat employees had pleaded that the notices on the instructions of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, who had asked for action against the PTI secretariat employees in a press conference.
They maintained the notices, served late last Thursday over via WhatsApp, were ‘malicious’.
The petitioners’ counsel requested the high court to declare the FIA notices null and void, and order the FIA to stop harassing PTI workers.
The petitioner’s counsel said the notices were issued in violation of a prior order of the IHC and an FIA circular. According to the records, the FIA circular was issued only to the Cyber Crime wing.
Acting Chief Justice Amir Farooq, who had reserved his verdict yesterday, issued a four-page written decision today.
The court held that the notices against which the application had been filed had already been implemented. Justice Farooq held that the petition became ineffective after the employees responded to the notices and the investigation involved took place.
The court, nevertheless, ordered the FIA to exercise caution while issuing notices to anyone in the future, and disposed of the petition.
