Military shoots down Indian intruder quadcopter for LoC breach

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military downed an Indian quadcopter that breached its airspace along the Line of Control (LoC) in disputed Kashmir region on Tuesday, the government said, as tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals escalated.

The incident follows the killing of 26 tourists last week in occupied Indian Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, which India blamed on Pakistan. Islamabad rejected the accusation. Hindu nationalist ruling Narendra Modi government and its allied media call for military action. Islamabad has warned it would deliver a “befitting response” to any aggression.

“The Pakistan Army thwarted an Indian quadcopter’s violation of airspace along the Line of Control (LoC),” the government said on its official social media account. ““The Pakistan Army, through timely action, foiled this nefarious attempt by the enemy.”

The quadcopter was downed in the Manawar sector of Bhimber. “In the Manawar sector of Bhimber area, the enemy attempted to conduct surveillance using a quadcopter, which the Pakistan Army shot down through timely and effective action.”

State media released an image of the downed quadcopter, intercepted on April 29, 2025.

“The Pakistan Army is always ready to give an immediate and effective response to any aggression from the enemy,” the government said. The nation stood “united with the armed forces to give a befitting response to the enemy on every front”.

The LoC, splitting Kashmir between India and Pakistan, has been a flashpoint since their 1947 independence. Both claim the region in full but control separate parts, having fought two wars over it.

Separately, the Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that suspected Indian cyberattacks on several ministries were repelled. “There were [cyberattacks] on some ministries, but we defended against them successfully. There was no huge issue,” Khawaja told reporters in Islamabad. “They were resolved timely.”
