Shahbaz Gill declined bail

ISLAMABAD: An Islamabad court Tuesday declined bail to Shahbaz Gul, the chief of staff of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is under arrest over charges of incitement to mutiny in the armed forces of Pakistan.

Gill delivered the offending remarks over television. The satellite broadcaster that aired the remarks is already facing a shutdown.

The case against Gill was registered by the Kohsar police station of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police after the city magistrate filed a complaint.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal had reserved his verdict over Gill’s bail plea after defence and prosecution lawyers completed their arguments yesterday.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal pronounced the reserved verdict today, rejecting the bail application. After the verdict was handed down, the lawyers of the accused told media persons the intended to move the High Court in their quest to seek full relief for Shahbaz Gill.
