ISLAMABAD: Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that Imran Khan used to call everyone thieves and robbers but it now stood proven he was the biggest thief in this country.

He was addressing an emergency media conference at Islamabad’s National Press Club shortly after the Election Commission of Pakistan announced its verdict in the prohibited funding case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“The money was obtained from illegal sources”, roared the generally mild-mannered Abbasi, a former Prime Minister of Pakistan and a sitting cabinet minister of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. “Funding was also received from Indian and Israeli citizens. Who was served by taking money from India and Israel?”

Abbasi, a top lieutenant of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, pointed out that the Election Commission of Pakistan had said the affidavit submitted by Imran Khan was false. “In this country, a prime minister was disqualified for not taking salary from his son.

“PTI says that 16 accounts are not known. But they should know what happens next. The law will take its course. The nation will make its own decision. Does a conspiratorial person want to be allowed in politics?”

He said the PTI had always accused others of being traitors, but their own theft had been caught. “Funding has been received from 34 foreign nationals and 351 companies. [Money worth PKR] 150 crore has been received from foreign companies and nationals.

“PTI says that 16 accounts are not known. Were these people not doing money laundering? This matter is till 2014 when PTI was not in power. Even then there was so much corruption. This party was in government for four years from 2014 to 2022. It should be known how much corruption this party has done.

“The Election Commission says that the affidavit submitted by Imran Khan is false. It proves who is honest and trustworthy.”

Abbasi recalled how Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was declared ineligible for not drawing salary from his son, and asserted that there was a conspiracy of fraud which was in front of the people of Pakistan. “Today, the people of Pakistan have to decide whether there is one law for Nawaz Sharif and another for Imran Khan”.

He accused PTI of being in politics by receiving funding from foreign companies and individuals, and of trying to deceive the people of Pakistan. “The case is now in the people’s court.”

Abbasi said if the verdict of this case has arrived after 8 years, then the other parties’ accounts should also come take 8 years to decide.
