RAWALPINDI: Bangladesh wrapped up a landmark 2-0 Test series whitewash on Pakistani soil Tuesday, sealing a dominant six-wicket win in the second Test to cap a remarkable maiden series triumph over their hosts.

Bangladesh, who won the first Test by 63 runs, chased down a modest target of 185 with ease, losing just four wickets in the process.

The visitors resumed their innings on 42-0 on the fifth and final day. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam provided a solid start, before Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haq steadied the ship.

Veterans Mushfiqur Rahim (22 not out) and Shakib Al Hasan (21 not out) then guided Bangladesh home, with Shakib sealing the victory with a four off spinner Abrar Ahmed.

The second Test saw a remarkable fightback by Bangladesh, who were 26-6 in reply to Pakistan’s first innings 274 before Liton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) put together a seventh-wicket partnership of 165.

Pakistan were then dismissed for 172 in their second innings, thanks to career-best figures from Hasan Mahmud (5-43) and Nahid (4-44).

Zakir Hasan (40), Najmul Hossain Shanto (38) and Mominul Haq (34) chipped in with useful cameos as Bangladesh chased down the 185-run victory target with more than a session left in the game.

The series sweep marks Bangladesh’s first-ever Test series victory over Pakistan, and their first away series win against a top-tier nation.
