ISLAMABAD: At least four people, including two policemen, were killed and 15 injured on Monday in a bombing targeting a police vehicle in Quetta, police, and hospital officials said.
Police official Shafqat Cheema told reporters that the vehicle of a superintendent of police was the target. An improvised explosive device was planted in a motorcycle parked behind the officer’s vehicle at Kandahari Bazar on Sahara-e-Allama Iqbal, he said. “The explosives were planted in a motorcycle.”
Television images showed a damaged vehicle of the local police surrounded by security personnel. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of a few was stated to be critical.
So far, none of the terrorist groups operating in the region have claimed responsibility for the blast.
Quetta is frequently targeted by militant groups, including banned sectarian groups.
A day earlier, two policemen were killed when unknown men attacked Killi Spine area in the Quetta region. The policemen, who belonged to the Eagle Squad, were patrolling on a motorcycle when the assailants opened indiscriminate fire, leaving two injured. One of the assailants was killed while the other managed to escape as cops returned fire.
