ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to receive the next tranche from the International Monetary Fund, as the global lender’s executive board prepares to discuss the country’s economic performance on January 11.
The IMF included Pakistan on its board agenda, according to its updated website, paving the way for the final approval of the $700 million disbursement under the $3 billion stand-by arrangement.
The board meeting was delayed from December, after the IMF staff and the Pakistani authorities reached a staff-level agreement on the first review of the loan program in November.
The current IMF program, which began in July with a $1.2 billion tranche, is scheduled to end in April, with about $1.8 billion remaining undisbursed.
The loan is aimed at supporting Pakistan’s economic recovery, as well as addressing structural imbalances and strengthening social spending. Pakistan has implemented several reforms as part of the IMF program, including the condition of raising electricity tariffs.
