ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan said he would advise the provincial governor to dissolve the local assembly on January 17.

“The summary for dissolving the KP Assembly would be sent to the governor on Tuesday as per Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s directives,” CM Khan said in a tweet. “Inshallah the PTI will return with a two-thirds majority.”

The former prime minister Khan directed the Chief Minister to send the summery for the dissolution of KP assembly to the governor Haji Gulam Ali. The summery will be sent under Article 112 of the Constitution.

Even if the governor decides against putting his nod on the draft summery for the dissolution, the House will stand dissolved within 48 hours, ending Thursday.

Last week, the Pakistan PTI-led coalition government in Punjab dissolved the provincial assemble.

PTI’s chief Khan, who was ousted as prime minister in a no-confidence vote in April 2022, announced last month to dissolve two of the country’s four provincial assemblies where he holds power, in a bid to force early elections.

The coalition government, however, insists that general elections will be held after the completion of the tenure in August. Historically, polls for the federal and provincial governments are held at the same time every five years.
