ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Army Rocket Force Command conducted a successful training launch of the indigenously developed Fateh-II missile system on Tuesday, the military’s media wing said, part of a sustained push by the country’s armed forces to refine their conventional missile arsenal.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described the Fateh-II as equipped with advanced avionics and state-of-the-art navigation aids. The exercise was intended to train troops, validate technical parameters and assess the performance of various sub-systems designed to deliver improved accuracy and enhanced survivability, the ISPR said.
Senior officers from the Strategic Plans Division, the Army Rocket Force Command and the broader Pakistan Army observed the launch alongside scientists and engineers from strategic organizations. “The forum commended successful training fire of indigenously developed missile of Fateh series,” the statement said.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, and the services chiefs all praised the “technical prowess, dedication and commitment” of the teams involved.
The test came one week after the Pakistan Navy carried out a successful live firing of the indigenously developed Taimoor air-launched cruise missile, an anti-ship weapon system. In its statement on that exercise, the ISPR said the missile “executed its mission with exceptional precision, validating Pakistan Navy’s combat capability to detect, target and decisively neutralize enemy sea-based threats at extended ranges.” The navy demonstration, it added, marked “a pivotal elevation of national defence capability, further strengthening Pakistan Armed Forces’ multi-dimensional coordinated strike posture and capabilities in the conventional domain.”
Tuesday’s launch fits into a pattern of recent missile activity by Pakistan’s military. In September 2025, the army successfully test-launched the Fatah-4 cruise missile, which has a reported range of 750 kilometers. In May 2025, amid heightened tensions with India, the army conducted a training launch of a surface-to-surface missile with a 120-kilometer range under the Fateh series. That same month, it also tested the Abdali weapon system, a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a reported range of 450 kilometers.
Over the past month, the navy has conducted successful tests of both the Taimoor air-launched cruise missile and an anti-ship ballistic missile. The Fateh series, a family of short-range ballistic missiles developed domestically, has become a visible element of the army’s conventional deterrent posture in recent years.
