KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday sacked pace bowler Haris Rauf from his central contract after he allegedly refused to join the Test squad for the tour of Australia 2023-24.
Rauf, 30, told the selectors in November he wanted to focus on white ball cricket and manage his workload.
Pakistan toured Australia for three Tests in December-January 2023. The side showed flashes of brilliance, however, were eventually whitewashed 3-0.
“Refusal to be part of Pakistan’s Test squad in the absence of any medical report or justifiable reason is a material violation of the central contract,” the PCB said in a statement.
“Haris’ central contract has been terminated from December 1, 2023, and no NOC (no objection certificate) to play any foreign league will be granted up to June 30, 2024.”
The PCB said Rauf was given a chance for a personal hearing but his response was unsatisfactory.
The PCB said playing for Pakistan was the ultimate honour and privilege for any sportsperson.
Rauf has only played one Test match for Pakistan but is a senior figure in their white-ball sides.
He has taken 18 wickets in T20s at an average of 21.66 and a strike rate of 14.6. Rauf has also played in various T20 leagues, including the Big Bash League in Australia and the Indian Premier League.
