ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has increased electricity tariffs by Rs1.42 per unit under the monthly fuel-cost adjustment mechanism, reflecting higher fuel charges incurred in February 2026.
The regulator said the adjustment will be recovered from consumers through their April billing cycle. In a formal notification issued Wednesday, Nepra directed that the positive fuel-cost adjustment for February be applied uniformly to customers of both the ex-Wapda distribution companies and K-Electric Ltd., in line with federal government policy guidelines that mandate identical treatment for the two sets of consumers.
The Rs1.42-per-unit increase will appear as a separate line item on bills, calculated on the basis of units consumed and billed during February 2026. It will be levied across all consumer categories of the ex-Wapda discos and K-Electric, including those covered by the Incremental Consumption Package.
Exemptions remain in place for lifeline consumers, electric-vehicle charging stations and pre-paid electricity customers of all categories who have opted for the pre-paid tariff. The adjustment will not apply to those groups. Nepra instructed that if any April 2026 bills are issued before the notification reaches the utilities, the fuel-cost adjustment should be incorporated in the subsequent month’s billing.
The decision marks the latest in a series of monthly fuel-price pass-throughs that have become routine for Pakistani households and businesses. Last month, the regulator approved a uniform increase of Rs1.6274 per unit for the January fuel-cost adjustment, which was similarly applied across the ex-Wapda discos and K-Electric. Ex-Wapda distribution companies serve the majority of the country’s electricity customers, while K-Electric is the sole private-sector integrated utility, supplying Karachi and surrounding areas. The uniform-application rule, introduced by the federal government, is designed to eliminate tariff disparities between the two networks.
