ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the flood-hit areas of Balochistan for the second time in three days on Monday as news came in that death toll from monsoon flooding has climbed to at least 127.
Sharif visited flood-hit areas of Balochistan to review rescue, relief, and rehabilitation measures besides meeting the victims, his office here said.
The PM visited flood victims’ camps in Khushnub in the Qila Saifullah district of Pakistan’s largest province. He also visited the flood affected areas of Chaman city where he mixed and mingled with flood-hit locals.
He was given a detailed briefing on the relief activities by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) officials.

Hundreds of villages have been devastated due to flooding following heavy monsoon rains in several parts of the country. Sindh and Balochistan provinces have been particularly hard hit, with the number of fatalities in Balochistan reaching 127.
The flood has swept away homes, leaving thousands at the mercy of the elements. Thousands of cattle have drowned, and crops have been destroyed.
Roads have been washed away and communication between cities and villages has been cut off, with children, women and the elderly spending their time under the open sky. Some 565 km of highways have been damaged, and 11 bridges effected by flooding.
In some places, the relief activities have started, but in others, the victims are still waiting for help.
Flood relief activities are ongoing in various flood-affected areas of the country by Pakistan Army and FC. Pakistan Army troops are providing medical aid and opening communication infrastructure, besides rescue, relief activities.
